Ariz. lenders offer help for home buyers

The Arizona Mortgage Lenders Association is teaming with several government housing agencies to hold the Home Buyer’s Fair 2009 on Saturday Oct. 17th.
 The free event offers help on: the $8,000 tax credit for first-time home-buyers; buying a home with no money down; credit requirements and repair; qualifying for a mortgage and buying a foreclosure home.
The Mortgage Lenders Association is working with the Phoenix office of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Consumer Credit Counseling and several city housing agencies to put on the event, which starts a 10 a.m. at the Glendale Renaissance Hotel. Details: www.azmortgagelenders.com.

Ariz. legislation to limit risky mortgages

Legislation has been introduced to prohibit excessive fees on mortgages and the issuance of certain types of high-cost,home loans in Arizona.
S.B. 1288,introduced by Sen. John Nelson, R-, of Glendale, calls for limiting negative-amortization mortgages as well as balloon payments and pre-payment penalties on most other mortgages.
The Arizona Attorney General backs the legislation, which is aimed at preventing another foreclosure crisis in the state.
A growing number of foreclosures in the Phoenix area are on "negative am" mortgages, which allow borrowers to pay less than what they owe in principal each month. But then those homeowners have to make up what they …

Another free workshop for struggling Arizona homeowners begins today

The HOPE NOW Alliance, working with the federal government’s Making Home Affordable Program, are in Phoenix again hosting a free "Homeownership Preservation" event. It starts today and runs through tomorrow Friday March 12th.
A similar event was held at South Mountain High School last summer.Homeowners facing foreclosure can receive free housing counseling at the events.
 
The current workshop is being held at the Glendale Civic Center and starts at 1 p.m today and runs until 7:30 p.m. Tomorrow, the doors are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Civic Center is located at 5750 W. Glenn Drive in Glendale.
