Various measures of Valley home prices heading in same direction: up or at least flat

Tracking metropolitan Phoenix’s home prices can be done in several ways, so there are different medians or index numbers for the area’s housing market. What’s key is the direction the numbers or indicators are heading.
And all measures now show Valley home prices inching up or at least holding steady.
S&P/Case-Shiller, the leading national home index, shows metro Phoenix home prices ticked up 0.8 percent between August and September. The index lags a few months because it compares national home prices. Nationally, the 20-city index shows home prices climbing 0.3 percent during the period, so the Valley is faring better.

Arizona Smart Growth awards given to ASU and Scottsdale projects

Arizona State University’s downtown Phoenix campus and Scottsdale’s Indian Bend Wash have garnered Smart Growth awards from Urban Land Institute Arizona.
The two projects were honored for being economically sound, envirnomnetally friendly and supportive of community liviblity.The awards were handed out at Urban Land’s annual forecast event Thursday.
“ASU’s Downtown Phoenix Campus has transformed Downtown Phoenix and is an outstanding example of an Urban Land Institute ‘Best Practice’ worthy of emulation,” said Wil Cardon, Urban Land’s Smart Growth Committee co-chair.

Who has received a loan modification?

The federal foreclosure prevention program has aided about 12 percent of the U.S. homeowners who have applied, according to the latest statistics.
At least one million borrowers have applied. Another 76,000 homeowners have been approved and should have loan modification soon, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.
Another 830,500 borrowers are in "trial modifcation" periods.

Arizona's share of new federal foreclosure funds

The Arizona Housing Department is waiting to hear how much of the $1.5 billion in additional foreclosure aid, announced by President Barack Obama in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, the state will receive.
The U.S. Treasury Department is supposed to announce this Friday (tomorrow) what share of the money each of the five states, including Arizona, hardest hit by foreclosures will get.
The Treasury Dept. is also expected to give the five states guidelines on how the money can be spent to help homeowners facing foreclosure. One way the Arizona Housing Dept. would like to spend the money is to continue to …
